Abstract:

Recent developments in the development and growth of urbanization and, consequently, the physical development of cities have posed problems in the urban space, which has threatened not only its inhabitants but also the whole environment with its complications. Considering that the most future urban population growth will be in the developing countries, there is a growing concern for sustainable development in these countries. Absard city as one of the cities with potential in Tehran province encounters with many environmental problems, including illegal harvesting of fertile soil, and the presence of overflowing and stinking streams and the entry of houses wastewaters into them, the presence of vile animals in a large canal and a large urban stream, and so on. With this necessity, this research has examined the environmental sustainability of the Absard city. The research method had been based on descriptive-analytic method and the SWOT model and QSPM matrix have been used In data analysis. The questionnaires were completed by three groups of local citizens, related environmental authorities and specialists. The sample size equals 114 households (citizens), and 40 officials and specialists. The research findings show that the strategies for preparing proper locating plans for the industry by specialists, increasing the facilities and equipment of the urban management in collecting waste and preventing to create environmental pollution, creating a unified urban management system for the creation and completion of channelling projects, the expansion of the canals and street streams and the completion of semi-residential projects through the revenue from tourism in the city , results from the quantitative strategies planning process are considered as the most priority strategies for the sustainability of the urban environment of Absard.
