Abstract:

Purpose: In this study we compared corneal densitometry parameters, measured by Pentacam HR, in delayedonset mustard gas keratopathy(DMGK), chronic corneal scarring(CCS) and keratoconus(KCN) groups. Methods: Twenty eyes of each group were enrolled to the study. A complete eye examination was done for all cases. Total corneal densitometry in anterior, central and posterior layers and 0 to 2mm, 2 to 6 mm, 6 to10 mm and 10 to 12 mm annulus were extracted from Pentacam HR system. Also the mean total densitometry of the cornea was evaluated. Results: The mean age of each patient in the DMGK, CCS and KCN groups was 53.25±5.95, 54.40±17.20 and 34.75±6.09 years, respectively. In all layers and annulus of the cornea (except 0-2 mm annulus) and the entire of cornea, total densitometry measurements, in DMGK were significantly more than two other groups and in total 0- 2mm annulus, CCS group had the most measurement. Conclusion: because corneal densitometry is a parameter for evaluating corneal haze, our study showed that the corneal opacity in the DMGK patients was more than two other groups and the most opacity in CCS cases, was located at the central ring of the cornea.
