Abstract:

Purpose: To report a case of incidentally finding of multiple holenhorst plaques in an otherwise healthy young female. Methods: A 34 year-old female was referred to the clinic because in routine eye examinations a white plaque was found in the superior arcade retinal artery branch Results: At the time of presentation the visual acuity was 0 LogMAR in both eyes. Slit examinations were normal, but in funduscopy there were multiple holenhorst plaques in the retinal artery branches. There was no associatedsign of retinal artery occlusions. Laboratory tests and cardiovascular consultations revealed nothing. Six months later the plaques were not present anymore and the patient did not have related signs/ symptoms. Conclusion: • Although most commonly in the elderly, but holenhorst plaques could be seen in young people too, which warrants cardiovascular checking. Meanwhile these lesions could fade spontaneously without any sequels.
