Essential oil Chemical composition of rosescented geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) in Isfahan

The essential oil of Pelargonium graveolens from the aerial parts growing in Isfahan, Iran was obtained by hydrodistillation and investigated by gas chromatography. Compounds making up 63.0% of the essential oils were characterized through gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography–mass spectroscopy(GC–MS). Eight components were identified in the essential oil. The main constituents of the essential oil were citronellol (38.5%), geraniol (6.2%), caryophyllene oxide (4.1%), a-terpineol (3.8%), linalool (3.2%), menthone (3.0%), iso-menthone (2.2%) and geranyl formate (2.0%).
