Serological survey of Avian influenzaH9N2in poultry of Jahrome city

Background and Objectives:Influenza is an acute respiratory disease caused by infection with influenza viruses.Avian influenza (AI) viruses are members of the family Orthomyxoviridae. AI is a contagious viralinfection that can affect several species of food producing birds as well as pet birds and wild birds.AI viruses can be classified into two categories: low pathogenicity (LPAI) and highly pathogenic(HPAI) forms, based on the severity of the illness caused in birds.The aim of this study was tomonitor mean antibody titer of influenza virus(H9N2) in commercial farms in Jahrome using HIassays.Material and Methods: In order to determine AIV (H9N2) antibody titers in poultry of Jahrome, 150 blood samples were collected from May 2017,and subjected to HI. The results were recorded and analyzed usingversion 16.0 of SPSS statistical software.Results and Conclusion: Mean antibody titers for AI was 5.8, minimum antibody titers was 4.1 and peak of antibodytiters was 10.7, also coefficient of variation (CV%) of antibody titers was 17%.The findings of this study not only reveal high prevalence of AIV (H9N2) antibodiesin poultry of jahrome , but also emphasize the importance of routinesurveillance for AIVs in avian species as part of an early warning plan for the prevention of AI outbreaks in Iran.
