Abstract:

Background and Objective: Laparoscopic surgeries are associated with various risks. One of the most important parameters to carry out for safe surgery, especially the implementation of laparoscopic surgery is the Electrosurgery. Electrosurgery can harm the patient directly and indirectly (as a capacitive coupling). Among these complications, unintentional burns can be noted. These burns can lead to various injuries to the patient based on the degree of burns. In this article, the amount of energy exchanged in the capacitive coupling phenomenon between monopolar Electrosurgery and surgical lenses during laparoscopy surgery was investigated. Materials and Methods: To this aim, an accurate heterogeneous model of the human body (including 5 different tissues), electrosurgery, Co2 box ,and surgical lenses was provided. Electrosurgery electrode was activated for 4, 6, 8 and 10 seconds within 5, 10 and 15 cm of the lens. An oscilloscope was used to check the Electric potential difference on the lens. The Electric potential difference on the lens was recorded in relation to distance and time in a table.Findings: The results showed that the electric charge on the lens in the distance of 10, 15 cm while the Electrosurgery electrode was 4 seconds activated, none of the tissue was damaged. However, When the Electrosurgery electrode was 4 seconds in the distance of 5 cm activated, one tissues damaged. When the Electrosurgery electrode was 6 seconds in the distance of 15 cm activated, one tissue damaged. When the Electrosurgery electrode was 6 seconds in the distance of 10 cm activated, two tissues damaged. When the Electrosurgery electrode was 6 seconds in the distance of 5 cm activated, their tissues damaged. When the Electrosurgery electrode was 8 seconds in the distance of 10 and 15 cm activated, on average, four tissue was damaged. When the Electrosurgery electrode was 8 seconds in the distance of 5 cm activated, five tissues damaged. The damage was examined in terms of apparent changes in the tissue. Conclusion: The results showed that as the distance between the electrode and the lens is low, the amount of the electric charge on the lens is also higher. Also, the results indicate that there is a direct relationship between the duration of the electrode activation time and the tissue damage.
