The Predictors of Marital Adjustment: Are There Any Relationship Between different attachment styles and marital adjustment among teacher couples

The purpose of the study was to investigate the role of adult attachment styles in predicting marital adjustment among Khorramabad city s teacher couples in Iran.This study was a descriptive – correlation study but the final target is applied. The population included all teachers; male and female who were working in high schools (614 teachers) of district 1of Education in Khorramabad city. The cluster-random sampling (n = 300) were selected. Subjects were evaluated by Spainer Adjustment Scale (1976) and Adult Attachment Scale of Hazan and Shaver (1987). To analyze the data, were used descriptive statistics indices (mean, standard deviation) and Pearson correlation charts and regression analysis. The results showed, there is a significant positive relationship between secure attachment and avoidant attachment style and marital adjustment, but there was, the negative significant relationship between ambivalent attachment style and marital adjustment. Multiple regression analysis, it was found that secure attachment style was the best predictor of marital adjustment. The findings showed that couples with different attachment styles have different marital adjustment.
