Influence of Different Openings on Confined Masonry Walls

This paper investigates the influence of diverse openings on behavior of confined masonry walls subjected to in-plane lateral loads. For this purpose, an experimental confined wall, tested in former studies, have been considered and it was modelled in ABAQUS software.A numerical model was built using the finite element method and was validated in light of the experimental results. After that three type of openings located in the center of the walls will be added. dimensions of openings are respectively 0.5×0.5, 0.75×0.75 and 1×1 meter. Results shows that the wider opening is, the more damages could be observed. Moreover, It was found that larger openings have worse impacts on axial stiffness and shear resistance
