Abstract:

In this research, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100% of normal aggregates were replaced with heavy aggregate (which is a mixture of iron ore and barite) in the composition of concrete. A total of 110 cubic specimens (15x15cm) and cylindrical specimens (15x30cm) were used to determine the specific gravity, compressive strength and tensile strength of Heavy Weight Concrete (HWC). The experiment results revealed that by substituting Heavy Weight Aggregate (HWA) iron ore and barite mixture for 10% (or higher) of normal aggregates it is possible to obtain a specific weight greater than 2600 kg/m3 and the resulting concrete can be classified as HWC.
