Abstract:

In today’s large-scale power systems, contingencyanalysis is a very time-consuming and cumbersome task. Also, ininterconnected systems, contingency analysis of a sub-networksurrounded by neighboring power systems is required. In thispaper, a novel method is proposed to evaluate contingencies in asub-network situated in a larger network. In the proposedmethod, remedial actions in adjacent sub-networks are modeledon the flow of boundary lines, thereby solving optimizationproblem across the whole network is avoided. In order to do so,sensitivity coefficients achieved from DC network model areapplied. The proposed method is applied on the IEEE RTS-96system and the amount of curtailed load and computation timeare calculated. In addition, the results obtained from theproposed method are compared with some existing methods todemonstrate superiority of the proposed model.
