Abstract:
Reducing the vulnerability of buildings to earthquakes can be considered as oneof the challenges in the past decade in Iran. This problemhas always beenchallenged by authorities and decision makers. Indeed, its valuable dimension ishighlightedonly in case of massive devastating earthquakes in large cities.Performance of the shear walls depends largely on the specifications of thecolumns around them.Of these features, notably the ratio of lengthto width ofthe rectangular columns relative to reinforcement used in these columns can bementioned. This research aimed at comparing the different width to length ratiosin the rectangular columns and different values of reinforcement used in themin order to achieveboth variablesoptimal level. The corner columns of the concretestructures were studied for purpose of comparison. To compare theseparameters, variables such asrelative displacement of the floors and base shearwere used. At first the behavior of shear walls in concrete structureswas studiedand thenthe impact of the columns around them were also investigated. Withmodelingof some structures with different reinforcement ratioand dimensionsand their analysis in software SAP2000, the behavior of concrete structures wasexamined according to the results of this software. The results showed thatsquare column has higher stiffnessin structures. Therefore, it absorbs muchmore vibrationsfrom earthquake and the structures show softer behavior byincrease of the length to width ratio.
