Abstract:
Introduction: The self- care theory believes that inviduals can develop themselves for self-care is something learned and not instinctive. Self-Care implies that a partnership between the patient and the professional is stablished , in which problems are identified and determine the actions and the appropriate type of intervention. Case Presentation: we report a64 years old female patient . she referred to us with an infectious wound 4 cm depth and 20 cm length in the sternum area. The patient reported having undergone CABG recently. Also she reported having diabetes and taking insulin. She said that she has not had the proper control on her diabetes and had no physical activity after her surgery .so she consulted with the nurse and she eagerly agreed to follow the advices and training of the nurse. Also according to the patient s economic condition, the first wound dressing was performed by the nurse and the date of her next visits was also specified . The nurse regularly monitored the patient s nutritional status and wound healing during dressing. after 45 days the wound healed dramatically and was ready to be sutured.Discussion: DM and it’s complications affect on the quality of life .in this patient Diabetes exacerbated surgical wound infection and this causes a lot of mental and economic costs to the patient. According to Orem Self-Care Theory, the patient s participation in the care plans is very important for the development of the plan itself, mainly for encouraging a reduction in the patients dependence in cases such as this case that we reported.
