Abstract:

As times change adaptation and reuse constantly occur in rehabilitated historic buildings. Many of these buildings are being rehabilitated, reused and adapted for new conditions in Yazd. Unfortunately energy use is mostly ignored in these adaptations. Some specific elements such as wind catchers and cellars are now ignored to be adapted and reused again properly. Virtually all these buildings use electrical and mechanical energies to provide suitable conditions of living. This paper tries to criticize this trend of adaptive reuse and rehabilitation in Yazd. The problems of Thermal efficiency in rehabilitated houses are introduced along with the missed properties and potentials. The analysis is based on the data gathered by measuring temperatures and humidity levels in a variety of spaces paving the way to criticize the adaptation policy of historical houses in Yazd
