Abstract:

One Hundred swabs were collected from septic surgical wounds of patients in some veterinary hospitals in Baghdad. cultured on culture media and the results appear 76 positive swabs for isolation of different types of bacteria and 26 swabs of these appear mixed bacterial isolates the study include 25 swabs from surgical operation rooms, hospitalized patient rooms to determine the sources of the wound infection weather from patient or from the working staff by taking swabs from hands , nose and urine. All bacterial isolates were identified using different biochemical tests, API- 20 E system and API staph. the single bacterial isolation in this study from past operations wound infection were staphylococcus epidermidis (46%) and staphylococcus aureus 8% and some gram negative bacteria. The higher mixed isolates were ( Enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli), (Citrobacter youngae and Escherichia coli) 11.5%. Antibiotic susceptibility test were carried out on bacterial isolation using 12 single antibiotic disks of commonly used drugs in treatment of post operation wound infection in hospital and appeared that most isolates in this study resistant to most antibiotics used as penicillin, ampicillin , cephatexime, amoxicillin ,trimethoprim and nalidixic acid but highly sensitive to chloramphenicol. Also (MICs) was done for some types of anibiotics and the result revealed that :ampicillin 0.25-< 512 Mg/ml, amoxicillin 0.125< 512 Mg/ml ,cephotaxime 1- < 512 Mg/ml, streptomycin 16- < 512 Mg/ml, gentamycin 4-< 512 Mg/ml and chloramphenicol 0.125< 512 Mg/ml.we studied also for the mixed antibiotic disks used for treatment of bacteria post operative wound infection so the results showed Staph. epidermidis , Enterococcus faecalis , Proteus vulgaris that resist to ampicillin and amoxicillin appear sensitive to ampicillin and sulbactam , amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. But other bacteria resistance before and after mixing antibiotics unless proteus merabilis resistant to ampicillin and became sensitive after mixing with salbactum.
