Abstract:
Cyclodextrins (CDs) are a type of polysaccharides. Although the unmodified cyclodextrin have themselves interesting properties, they are limited in their applications. However, through modification, addition of new functionality to their structures allows for the possibility of more applications in different fields. In this work, α-CD was modified by a series of amino acids, including natural, aromatic and aliphatic amino acids by using trimethylsilyl chloride. In this study, we report that trimethylsilyl chloride (TMSCl) at room temperature is an efficient reagent for esterification of amino acids of all classes. Compared to the other methods, the use of TMSCl was more advantageous due to the following features: easy operation, mild reaction condition, simple workup and good yields. The esterification of α-CD was carried out in two steps. The evidence for the formation of chemical modification was confirmed by using common spectroscopy methods, such as FT-IR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR
