Abstract:
In this work, iron-modified aluminosilicate mesostructure was studied for the selective removal of nitrogen compounds (quinoline and carbazole) naturally present in diesel. Model diesel was simulated using a mixture of n-decane that also contained the sulfur compounds dibenzothiophene and dimethyldibenzothiophene. The iron-modified MSU-S exhibited a much stronger adsorption affinity for nitrogen compounds than for sulfur compounds. The results demonstrated that iron enhances the quinoline and carbazole uptake of MSU-S by 38.8% and 17.8%, respectively. According to the equilibriume results data fitting for nitrogen compounds is best achieved by the Freundlich isotherm for Fe-MSU-S and the kinetiks data fit a second order model.
