Abstract:

In the recent years, the uncontrolled and continuous entrance of hospital and pharmaceutical wastewaters to aquatic environments has led to pharmaceutical agents arrival in these environments. Unfortunately, applying conventional methods for wastewater treatment haven't shown a remarkable performance to remove these compounds, so these can enter to aquatic environments through effluents ordisposed sludge. In this study, amoxicillin (AMX) antibiotic was selected and its removal performance was investigated using electrocoagulation process . The effect of operative variables including; initial concentration of AMX (20-100 mg.L-1), pH solution (3-12), current density (5-20 mA.cm-2) and reaction time (5-30 min) on AMX removal efficiency were studied. The obtained results revealed that in optimized condition, AMX removal efficiency was 98.12 % and the consumed energy was 0.435 kWh.m-
