Abstract:

To investigate geographic structure within Iran ethnic populations, we studied 17 Y-chromosome short tandem repeat (STR) including (DYS19, DYS389I, DYS389II, DYS390, DYS391, DYS392, DYS393, DYS385a/b, DYS438, DYS439, DYS437, DYS448, DYS458, DYS456, DYS635, and Y-GATA-H4) in six population of Kurds and Lors with the goal of constructing of a representative Y-STR database including all Iranian ethnic groups. Methods: Blood samples were collected from 400 randomly selected, unrelated Iranian males. Genomic DNA was extracted by a salting-out procedure and FTA Cards. All 17 markers were co-amplified using the AmpFlSTR Y-filerTM PCR Amplification kit (Applied Biosystems, USA). Results:Allele frequencies in our study are similar to reported allele frequencies in Iranian population on Y-STR haplotype databases. Conclusions: Based on our preliminary data, the recombination-free inheritance of Y chromosome-specific STRs markers provides advantages in their applications to human remains identification testing including forensic analysis.
