Abstract:

In this work, microwave-assisted transesterification was compared with other transesterification methods, namely ohmic-assisted transesterification, ultrasonic probe-assisted transesterification, ultrasonic bath-assisted transesterification and magnetic stirrer transesterification at different reaction times of 4, 10, and 40 min, methanol to oil molar ratio of 12, and catalyst concentration of 1.2%. This study showed that microwave-assisted transesterification can effectively increase methyl ester yield and simultaneously decrease the reaction time and energy consumption of biodiesel production from sour cherry kernel oil. Microwave-assisted transesterification showed the highest final yield of 85.52 % only after 4 min. After microwave-assisted transesterification, ohmic-assisted transesterification, ultrasonic probe-assisted transesterification and ultrasonic bath-assisted transesterification showed the highest final yield, respectively.
