Abstract:

Considering both full observability of the electric grids and contingencies of power system elements, it is strongly suggested that not only should PMU configuration results in full observability of network, but also it should provide maximum measurement redundancy in contingencies. In this paper, the optimal PMU placement problem is addressed as to minimize the cost of PMU installation considering both full network observability and single contingencies in transmission network. Topological observability and multiple probable single contingencies affecting the optimal PMU placement problem are discussed. Proposed methods are applied on IEEE standard test networks in order to validate their effectiveness.
