Abstract:
This Insulators strings are wildly used in the transmission lines while they have two important tasks. The first one is electrical isolation and the next task is mechanical support between the conductors and tower. Potential emission in the insulators string is asymmetric. Therefor electric field calculation is an important factor in insulators string design. In this paper, the electrical potential and transmission lines insulators field are investigated considering several glasses and porcelain insulators using three dimensional modeling. During the normal operation mode, various forms of physical insulator body fracture are considered in a half cycle of sine wave to calculate the impact of physical failure on the electric field. In addition, potential emission by COMSOL software is analyzed and potential and electric fields are compared along with a complete chain insulator. Three dimensional models are used because in this method breaking can be simulated for glass and porcelain better than two dimensional model.
