Abstract:

Asphalt Concrete (AC), a mixture of bitumen and aggregates, is a sensitive structure compared with other civil configurations. So, Scientists and engineers are constantly trying to improve the performance of asphalt pavements. Generally Fibers and Polymers are two important cases used in this way. But the most popular bitumen modification technique is polymer modification. However, it has been claimed that among various modifiers for asphalt, fibers have gotten much attention for their excellent improvement effects. Therefore, the main aim of this paper has been concentrated to investigate the effect of Polypropylene, PP, fibres on the mechanical properties of AC mixture. This study showed acceptable results in using polypropylene fiber as reinforcement in AC. Asphalt samples were compacted by Superpave Gyratory Compactor (SGC) procedure and analyzed by both Marshall and Superpave methods. Dry and wet base procedure was used for this research which increased Marshall Stability.
