Abstract:

In this paper, buckling behavior of a new type sandwich panel with composite skins andcorrugated composite-foam core is studied experimentally and numerically. Sandwich panels are a type of composites that consist of two outer strong and thin skins and a light and thick core locatedin between the skins that provide good advantages. The experimental technique, VARTM for samples production was investigated, then for testing compressive load was applied to the samplesand load-deflection curves were arrived. Finite element analysis, using ABAQUS commercial software, was applied for determining the critical buckling load. In experiment, two types of coreare considered. First is a simple foam core but in second a trapezoidal shape corrugated composite laminate is improvised. Finally the experimental and finite element results were compared. It hasbeen shown that the buckling load of a sandwich panel with a corrugated composite-foam core was improved.
