Abstract:
In this research, in an attempt to extend the added value and application area of PA6/ABS compound, theeffects of adding CaCO3 nanoparticles on the mechanical behaviors of PA6/ABS were experimentally studied. Nanocomposites based on PA6/ABS containing 2, 5, 8 wt% of nano-CaCO3 particles were prepared using twin-screwextruder and injection molding machine. Morphology was studied using SEM. Mechanical properties, comprising tensile and impact tests, were characterized. The results of mechanical experiments indicated a 31% increase in tensilestrength by adding 5 wt% of nano-CaCO3 particles. By adding 2 wt% of nanoparticles, the impact strength in notched samples was increased as high as 160% when compared to net PA6/ABS. No break was observed in unnotched samplescontaining 2 and 5 wt% of nanoparticles. The best balance of mechanical performances was found to be in PA6/ABS/CaCO3 nanocomposite containing 5wt% of nano CaCO3. (bolded, font10, times roman)(two spaces)
