Abstract:
Wireless sensor networks are networks which are composed of a large number of homogeneous or heterogeneous nodes. One of the critical challenges in these networks is energy constraints that affect the network lifetime directly. One of the main approaches to deal with this challenge is clustering. Clustering is one of the main approaches to the design of scalable and energy - efficient protocols for wireless sensor networks. The use of clusters reduces the communication overhead of sending data and thus the energy consumption and interference between nodes. In this paper, in addition of cluster head, we choose a node that called CH Collaborator (CC). The basic parameters for clustering are interconnection density, distance from the BS, the amount of residual energy of nodes and distribution of nodes. In this paper, the cluster radius to CH is calculated based on the specified parameters. Determining CC, especially when the network density is high, causes to have uniform distribution of energy and shows a better performance. This protocol uses localized coordination to determine the radius. To evaluate the proposed method by using MATLAB simulations, experiments have been conducted and the proposed method is compared with some of the best clustering algorithm and simulation results show the good performance of the proposed method.
