Examining Dimensions of Social Sustainability for children's activities: A Case study on Pardis Complex, Shiraz, Iran

Along with transformations in urbanism, children’s activities and patterns of play have changed as well, although with a declining trend in their physical activities and social communication, which can lead toundesirable impacts on their growth and future social life. If children are to conform to standard conditions, open spaces, specifically inresidential areas, serve as appropriate places for such activities. Researchers have examined these characteristics, using them in theirdesigns. From another perspective, social sustainability, too, has proposed some indicators which are in line with establishingappropriate urban spaces. This study seeks to compare these standard indicators of an urban space to those of social sustainability, examiningthem empirically in a residential area in Shiraz city, Iran. In doing so, following related investigations, the indicators were examined in PardisComplex. Results suggested points of strength and weakness in the local area which can be taken into account to make the locale afavorable place, incorporating social sustainability into children’s activities.
