Abstract:

In a society in which accepting social values, overall viewpoints and the mass’s approval are emphasized, new buildings will try to be in harmony with the existing patterns. Edmund Bacon has sought the ways the harmonious urban appearance has been formed regarding the architectures who worked in the same place but in different time frames; he raises a second person’s theory saying that this is the second designer who determines through his performance whether an existing architectural work is of primary value or not. In other words, he determines through his approach towards society and acceptance or negation of the past culture whether the work and artistic creation of the first person had been durable or must be destroyed. This is a kind of approach which designers in Renaissance have taken with an aim to create urban spaces which had already been designed, so that they overlooked the architectural glory of their works for the benefit of harmony in public places. The main worry of architects and city builders with regard to city appearance concern the buildings which are careless about one another and streets. Buildings look like individuals of a society in which if they have the culture and observe social norms, they will respect each other and; in contrast, if they lack social courtesy to each other, they will be careless toward one another starting a negative competition and consequently negating each other. In this article we will deal with such issues like harmonious designing in city by providing the examples performed in different cities.
