Abstract:

Introduction: Primary dysmenorrhea or painful menstruation without pelvic pathology is one of the most common gynecological disorders. Understanding the current treatment of dysmenorrhea in the community is the first step in developing and replacing appropriate treatments;In addition to conventional chemical drugs, the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is also increasing in the treatment of dysmenorrhea.Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the position of complementary medicine on pain relief in primary dysmenorrhea.Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted to find documentation related to the subject of search in the Scopus, Magiran, Science I Web, ScienceDirect databases in both Persian and English.Results: A total of 32 English and Persian articles were reviewed. Marvie s findings from the present study indicate the positive effects of different complementary approaches in reducing and ameliorating primary painful menstrual pain, as acupressure is considered a non-pharmacological and non-invasive method for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea and a The intervention is safe, effective, low-cost and has no side effects. Also, medicinal herbs, including females, chamomile and their compounds (65.15%) were the most commonly used non-medicinal treatments.Conclusion: The frequency of using complementary medicine approaches in reducing the pain of primary dysmenorrhea is relatively high. This finding indicates the necessity of further interventional studies on the efficacy of these treatments and the education of adolescent girls and their families.
