Abstract:

Background: Providing safe drinking water is an important pillar of public health and a large number of common diseases such as typhoid, cholera and gastrointestinal diseases are directly related to the consumption of contaminated water. Objectives: In this study, GIS was used to analyze and detect microbial contamination in water supply system of Masiri city.Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, about of 400 samples from all groundwater resources of Masiri city were conducted during two periods of dry and wet season. Residual chlorine, MPN and E.coli of samples was determinate. Results were compared with national standards and analyzed using SPSS and ArcView software. Concentration distribution map in GIS and factors affecting Residual chlorine, MPN and E.coli changes were investigated. Results: The results showed that 64% of the samples in the dry season had residual chlorine below the standard level and for the wet season was 45%. MPN tests showed that about 21% of the samples were positive in the dry season, which was lower in the wet season (5.5%). In the E coli test about 14.5 % and 0.5% of samples for dry season and wet season, respectively was positive. Based on the color zoning and also by examining the points where residual chlorine is below the permissible level, it can be founded the endpoints and blind spots of the network, low pressure points, pipe permeability, network length, fractures Possible and the old texture of the distribution network. Conclusion: According to the results obtained in ArcView, it is necessary to improve the microbial quality of Masiri water distribution network in some places, which can be improved by proper management of chlorination and defects
