Abstract:

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is an autologous fraction of the blood that contains a large amount ofplatelet, growth factors and cytokines such as vascular endothelial growth factor, platelet derivedgrowth factor, epidermal growth factor, fibroblast growth factor, insulin-like growth factor I, II,transforming growth factor, interleukin 8, hepatocyte growth factor, and connective tissue growthfactor. Recently, the stimulating, proliferating, and tissue regenerative effects of PRP have been usedin several medical conditions in orthopedics, ophthalmology, dental surgery, and wound healing.Tissue repair begins with clot formation and is followed by platelet degranulation with the releaseof platelet growth factors. These are necessary and well-regulated processes to achieve woundhealing. PRP preparations are used in gynecology for various diseases based on its knownmechanisms, which involve the wound healing process and the initiation of inflammatory reactions.PRP is an innovative therapeutic modality, as it is affordable, simple, easily performed, and effective. It is also a noninvasive modality with promising results and no side effects.
