Abstract:

Background and Aim : Females’ sexual quality of life is one of the key issues of sexual and reproductivehealth. This is a subjective concept and defined as individual’s perception of sexual aspect of life. Urinaryincontinence (UI) is a common condition that has a negative impact on sexual, physical and mental health,psychological, occupational and it can lead to withdrawal from social life. Because of the increasingprevalence of urinary incontinence and its effect on sexual health, the sexual quality of life of women mayget even worse. The purpose of this article is to review the sexual quality of Life in women with urinaryincontinence.Methods : The present study is a review that was conducted by comprehensive search in database such asGoogle Scholar, PubMed, Sid, Science Direct, Library of Cochrane and Scopus from 2005 to 2019. Theauthors searched for the literature related to Sexual quality of life in women with urinary incontinence byusing this syntax including : 1. Sexual quality of life (13414) 2. (Sexual quality of life) AND urinaryincontinence (1220) 3. ( Sexual quality of life ) AND urinary incontinence (25) 4. Systematic [sb] AND( Sexual quality of life ) AND urinary incontinence [tiab](0). After evaluating 25 articles, 10 article wasselected because of the higher level of evidence (IIIA-IIIB) and Related to the present study. The studieswere critically evaluated. The methodological quality was assessed by STROBE checklist.Results : As 10 articles in the current study 2 articles are case control and 8 articles are cross sectional. 5articles aimed to investigate sexual function and sexual satisfaction and 5 articles aimed to investigateSexual Quality of Life in women with urinary incontinence. In studies, women with UI were found to havesexual dysfunction complaints such as fear of releasing urine during intercourse, decrease in sexual appetite,stimulation disorders, decrease or loss in vaginal sensitivity, decrease in vaginal lubrication, orgasmdisorders, and the presence of pain compared to healthy women. Evidence suggests that if attention tosexual health especially sexual relationship ,sexual performance, sexual anxiety and sexual intimacy, it canbe a helpful for Sexual quality of life in women with urinary incontinence and women had an active sexlife without embarrassment.Conclusion : According to the results, it seems that several factors affect the sexual quality of life in womenwith urinary incontinence. A large number of women are notable to express this problem to healthcareprofessionals or individuals around them due to stigmatization or their feelings of shame. It is necessary topay attention to a set of factors in order to improve their situation. Emphasis is placed on informing patientsand empowering health care providers to provide the above services is important.
