Prevalence of physical and mental problems during pregnancy in couples with history of infertility and abortion

Abstract:

Background and Aim : During pregnancy, each couple may experience a variety of problems. Men sproblems at this time called as Couvade syndrome. Couples with some conditions such as a history ofinfertility and previous abortion, may be experience more problems. The purpose of this study was todetermine the prevalence of pregnancy problems in couples with history of infertility and abortion.Methods : In this descriptive study, 90 expectant couples with 28-41 weeks gestation were evaluated.Couples were divided into 3 groups: with history of infertility, previous abortion and control group. Aquestionnaire was used to compare the prevalence of common pregnancy problems. Also, in each group,the correlation between the couples was calculated. Significance level was set at 0.05.Results : Women had more physical problems than men (p <0.001). In couples with a history of infertilityand abortion, each couple had significantly more physical and psychological problems than the controlgroup. There was a positive and significant correlation between the two groups with previous abortion andinfertility (p <0.05). The control group did not show any correlation.Conclusion : In situations such as a history of infertility and miscarriage, each couple may experience moreproblems during pregnancy due to the importance or stress that pregnancy causes them. Even as themother s problems worsen, her husband may be more affected. Taking care of this group of people will payattention to such records, which will help them to have a better pregnancy if necessary.
