Abstract:

In recent decades, steel plate shear walls have been used as a lateral force resisting system in some high-rise structures, and in future they can replace many common lateral systems due to their significant stiffness and post -buckling strength. There is an increasing desire in use of such system in high-rise structures since it reduces the weight of structure. On the other hand, in last decade there has been a focus on probable hazards such as fire, which should be examined with respect to the degree of importance of the structure. Since the effects of fire on thin plate shear walls may be remarkable, in this study the effects of fire-induced temperature on the amount of stiffness and elastic strength of shear panel have been investigated. Results showed that increasing the thickness of the plate from 0.5 mm to 2 mm and 2 mm to 4 mm, will bring a reduction of 86% and 53% in the column deflection, respectively. Also, for a constant plate thickness increasing the yield stress of the plate does not have much effect on elastic stiffness of the panel.
