Abstract:
In this paper higher order shear deformation theory is used to obtain the transverse vibration equations of motion for nanowires (NWs). In order to obtain more accurate results for thick NWs, higher order shear deformation effect is taken into account for calculation of the strain energy of NW. Hamilton principle is applied to obtain the equations of motion. Effect of surface energy on the natural frequencies is examined considering the variations of parameters as length, thickness to length ratio and the mode number. Also, the results are compared with those obtained by Euler- Bernoulli theory and good agreement with the data available in the literatures is reached. This study might be useful for design of NW-based MEMS/NEMS in sensitive measurement tools.
