Abstract:

The apex locators are used for measuring the canal length of the tooth root, based on the estimation of the tooth electrical impedance. This measurement is the most sensitive step in the Endodontic treatment procedure of a tooth via electronic apex locators (EAL). Radiography was the most commonly and widely used technique for root canal length determination. However recently, EALs are widely utilized for the measurement.In this paper, an apex locator which is based on estimating equivalent circuit and impedance of human tooth is designed and implemented. EAL uses 1 and 10 Kilo Hertz (KHz) frequencies for measuring the depth of the tooth root canal according to tooth impedances in these two frequencies. The measurement results confirm the high performance of the implemented EAL
