Abstract:
Images nowadays are of focal attention in learning, they facilitate learning of second language. With expansion of technology new high quality images came into view. By revising English textbooks in Iran from 2013 new published books are accompanied with images. One of these books is Prospect three, which is taught in the third grade of junior high school textbooks. The need for evaluation of them in case of their images is felt by researchers and they analyzed the images of this book thoroughly. 184 images were selected which were related to animated and contain people. Evaluation instrument was socials semiotics of Kress and van Leeuwen (2006). The results show that males were in dominance and long shots were the most common shots in this book which they are used to show new information and gazes which most of the gazes are neither towards each other nor readers are in line with shots and they are used for introducing to introduce new information and vocabulary. This study has implications for ESL or EFL teachers, course book designers and applied linguistic students
