Abstract:

This article is a comparative study of English translations of Holy Quran, which examines how to solve the problem of lexical balance in translations of Surah Al-Nas. To this end, ten English translations of the Al-Nas Surah, translated by English or Arabic translators, were examined in order to explain the semantic domain of the words in the two languages and then to compare the semantic layers of each of the English equivalents. The case study of English translations of this Surah reflects the fact that lexical equivalences in translation of religious texts has its own intricacies due to cultural differences of the source and target languages. The results of this applied research show that translators of this surah, based on theoretical basics of translation, have chosen specific strategies for achieving lexical equilibrium. Accordingly, explaining these strategies with examples, can function as an objective model for translators of religious texts. This study can also be used to address the specific type of discourse in religious texts
