Abstract:

The issue of linguistic imperialism has recently received considerable critical attention in the literature. However, thereis a paucity of research on readings on linguistic imperialism, especially in the EFL revolutionary contexts like Iran.Disclosing the concept of linguistic imperialism is such settings are of importance as the Iranian revolution is embeddedwith the discourse of anti-linguistic imperialism at its core. Embedded in a grounded theory, this study disclosed theIranian School Teachers’ Readings through interviews on the multifaceted nature of linguistic imperialism. Findingshowed that the teachers in the school settings read linguistic imperialism in a non-linear, although they dominantly hada strong tendency towards anti-linguistic imperialism. Indeed, there was a correspondence with the discourse ofrevolutionary Iran and the school teachers on the construct of linguistic imperialism. This study has some contributionsto theory and practice in ELT
