Abstract:

Charles Dickens is one of the greatest novelists of literary world whose novels are commonly adapted forfilm, television and theater. The most important element of Dickens’ realist novels which make them suitablefor scene and TV is their happy ending . There are many film, animated film, play and musical adaptationsof Dickens’ novel, Oliver Twist that have been made in different countries with different culture, politicalcondition and most important one, different audiences. The two important adaptations of Oliver Twist areDavid Lean and Roman Polanski. Both directors have made some changes either in dialogues betweencharacters or in sub plots of the novel, but on the whole Lean’s adaptation is more faithful to the originaltext than Polanski’s
