A Comparative Study of Chuseok and Thanksgiving Celebrations through the Lens of Variation Theory

Given that celebrations in each country reflect cultural achievements and customs of that country, the celebrations are often analyzed for studying cultures. However, few studies have examined the celebrations through variation theory. To address this gap, this study draws upon - Variation Theory to examine the homogeneity and heterogeneity of two different cultural celebrations, Chuseok, Korean, and Thanksgiving celebrations, in two different countries. Data were gathered from the available databases and analyzed. The study found that Chuseok and Thanksgiving are similar in some aspects, though they are basically different. The information presented in this study help the countries to promote cultural exchanges and protect the essence of their own culture from the invasion caused by cultural globalization
