Abstract:

This study compared the impacts of input-based instruction and output instruction on intermediate EFL learners’ speaking skill. To this end, 54 EFL learners were selected as the participants of this research. Afterwards, both classes took a researcher-made speaking post-test. Then, one class received the instruction through output instruction and the other class received the instruction through input exposure. The whole treatment lasted for 15 sessions of 50 minutes. In the last session, the post-test of speaking was administered to the both groups. Paired samples t-tests were run to analyze the data. The findings revealed that both groups had better performance on their post -test compared to their pre-test. The results actually showed that both input-based and out-put- based instructions were positively affected EFL students’ oral proficiency. Findings have implications for learners and teachers as well as materials developers
