Abstract:

Getting students engaged in the classroom is one of the main concerns of every EFL teacher which can be done through organizing students to work in groups cooperatively or collaboratively. Although Cooperative learning and collaborative learning have gained in popularity, and they are now occupying increasingly prominent positions in the higher education classroom, but unfortunately these to terms are used interchangeably by many educators. This article is a library study in which the researchers tries to clarify the distinction between cooperative and collaborative learning approaches by presenting the definitions of these two terms , discussing their characteristics and principles , and explaining the benefits of these learning approaches.
