Abstract:
A new type of aqueous drag-reducing fluid with CaCO3 nanoparticles was developed. The new working fluid was an aqueous solution with CaCO3 nanoparticles added and has special effects of drag-reducing in pipelines. An experimental apparatus was set up. The test section of the apparatus consisted of a smooth carbonate pipe and four galvanized iron pipes with the same length (4 m). Experiments were done to study the drag and pressure reduction in turbulent flow of a relatively new category of drag-reducing fluids which are names as nanofluids, in five different horizontal pipes with 1/4-1 diameters and 6 length. Results indicated that there were obvious differences of the drag-reducing and pressure drop characteristics between conventional Newtonian liquid (water) and new drag-reducing nanofluid. In addition, drag reduction in rough pipes was more than that in smooth ones at the same Reynolds number and it improved, as the relative roughness increased
