Abstract:

The present work is concerned with the investigation of photo-optical and thermal response of skin tissue structure during light-tissue interaction. A triple-layer, one-dimensional skin tissue structure has been considered. Light propagation in the skin tissue has been modeled by using a full electromagnetic method and the electromagnetic equations have been solved numerically. In order to determine the temporal and the spatial temperature distribution inside the skin tissue, the electromagnetic equations has been coupled with Penne’s bio-heat transfer equation. The equation has been solved semi analytically with the adiabatic condition by using the green function method. Based on the primary findings of this study, the effect of light intensity and wavelength on the resultant temperature distribution inside the skin tissue structure has been reported. Hereby, the results of this study could be efficient in regulating clinical therapeutic protocols for the skin tissue hyperthermia as well as thermal therapy with laser or other coherent light illuminating sources. Although, they can be useful for tissue imaging for early stage detection of diseases as well as protection of skin in front of hazardous radiations.
