Abstract:

Background and Aim : Regarding the multiple complications of acute bronchiolitis in children, this study was conducted to evaluate the response to treatment and to compare normal saline 0.9%and hypertonic saline 3% nebulize in bronchiolitis. Methods : In this clinical trial study, children who were diagnosed with viral bronchiolitis duringthe autumn and winter of the year 2018 were referred to the emergency department of Ali AsgharChildren s Hospital. 30 children were treated with normal saline 0.9% nebulize and 30% weretreated with 3% Hypertonic saline. Demographic variables, duration of onset of symptoms, heartand respiratory rates at admission were measured. The severity of the disease was assessed basedon the Respiratory Distress Assessment Index (RDAI). Data was analyzed by SPSS software. Results : Vital signs (respiratory rate, heart rate, oxygen saturation) and RDAI score aftertreatment were significantly improved in both groups (p <0.001), but the difference inimprovement of vital signs and RDAI score between the two groups was no significant. (P <0.05).Mean hospital stay was not significantly different between the two groups (p = 0.16)Conclusion : Hypertonic saline and normal saline nebulize both improved the symptoms ofchildren with bronchiolitis, but there was no significant difference between them, and use of bothin the pediatric population with acute symptoms of bronchiolitis is recommended.
