PREVALENCE OF ELDER ABUSE AND NEGLECT IN THE IRANIAN ELDERLY POPULATION

Background and Aim : There is no accurate data on the prevalence of elder abuse in Iranunknown and few studies have been done in this area.Methods : This prospective cross-sectional study was performed on 300 old subjects aged over 65years referred to the Emergency Department of three Imam Hossein, Loghman Hakim, and TajrishHospitals in TehranResults : The present study identified three components of emotional neglect, psychological abuseand financial abuse as three important subscales of elder abuse.Conclusion : Since elder abuse can affect the elderly’s mental and physical health, more attentionneeds to be paid to the issue of elder abuse.
