Abstract:

Introduction: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental disability; signs typically appear during early childhood and affect a person’s ability to communicate, and interact with others. The prevalence of ASD is approximately 1% and an upward trend has been reported. The male-to-female ratio of ASD is generally considered to be 4: 1. Nearly 75% of ASD patients suffer from comorbid psychiatric illnesses or conditions. The epilepsy one of most important comorbidity, in nearly 20% of these cases reported. One of the greatest challenges in autism is to determine why early childhood regression occurs in perhaps 25%, whether epilepsy plays a role in the regression The aim of this study is evaluation of seizures on these disorder. Methods:the criteria of diagnosis for ASD is international classification of diseases, version 10 (ICD 10), and for epilepsy is international classification of epilepsy. In this study all of patients that serviced by Kerman Autism Center evaluated. Results: in a center of autism in Kerman 105 ASD persons with autism studied. The male rate is 17%. The patients that were under 14 years old classified to three groups; mild, moderate and sever.The rate of seizures in mild group was 8%, in moderate group was 53% and in sever group was 64%. Conclusion: epilepsy one of most comorbidity in autistic person, which must be controlled.
