Abstract:

Introduction: Autism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. These signs all begin before a child is three years old. Frequency and type of epilepsy has not been evaluated in our society precisely. Material and method: 56 autistic patients has been enrolled in this study. The criteria was in accordance with DSM5 revised ,the place of study was in Nour hedayat autistic patients center in Mashhad. EEG has performed for patients and detailed psychological plus neurological evaluation was done. Result: Mean age of patients was about 8 and half years, 34 of whom male and the rest (22)female .17 (10 male 7 female) of these patients (30.4%) has previous history of epileptic seizures .The most common type was tonic clonic generalized (53%).pathologic EEG has been detected in around 76% of epileptic patients. Conclusion: It seems that epileptic seizures are not rare among autistic patients. Detecting epilepsy and management of seizures in this group could help better management of these patients.
