Abstract:
The present study was undertaken to determine the chemical composition and investigation of the antibacterial effects of essential oil of Zhumeria majdae. Chemical analysis using gas chromatography and mass spectrophotometry (GC/MS) showed that linalool (55.69%) and camphor (25.42%) were dominant components of essential oil of Z. majdae. Antibacterial activity, minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal activity of the essential oil was performed by agar disc diffusion and micro dilution broth methods. The essential oil showed strong antimicrobial activity against all tested bacteria. The best result for the minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration was reported for the 1250ppm and 625ppm of Z. majdae essential oil and the most sensitive bacteria to essential oil were Agrobacterium tumifasiens and Bacillus subtilis.
