Abstract:
Background and Objectives: Gastrointestinal diseases are common all around the world. According to Iranian traditional medicine Jovaresh is one of the drugs types which are used for GI disturbances. Jovaresh Mofarrah is one of the products in ITM which used as stomach tonic, anti-halitosis and anti-diaphoresis. It contains several medicinal plants and amla is the most active component of the product which has cold and dry temperament and it is useful for stomach complains. In the recent study, Jovaresh Mofarrah has been prepared according to ITM references and quality control tests were performed on the product. Methods: The formulation contained Phyllantus emblica, Piper cubeba, Rosa damascena, Nardostachys jatamansi, Myristica fragrans, Pistacia lentiscus, Elettaria cardamomum, Zingiber officinalis, Cyperus spp., Amomum melegueta, Eugenia caryophyllata and Cinnamomum zeylanicum. At first, aqueous extract of amla was prepared and coarse powder of other species were added to the amla extract and mixed. Finally, honey was added to the mixture. The product was standardized based on total tannins content. Moreover, laboratory accelerated tests have been done in 40°C and 75% humidity for three months. Results: The results showed that the prepared formulation was dark brown in color with special odor. Total tannins content was found 0.18% and no microbial contamination was seen. It was stable during three months as well. Conclusion: The product could be considered for production in industrial scale after clinical trial studies.
